چکیده

Abstract Sugar beet pulp (SBP) is a by-product formed in large amounts during the production of refined sugar and currently used as low-cost feed for livestock. The dry SBP comprises largely three polysaccharides (75–85%), cellulose, hemicellulose pectin, whose component sugars constitute potential valuable feedstock producing building blocks chemicals materials. In present study, simple integrated process fractionation into streams enriched with corresponding developed. Initial screening several pectinase preparations (from Novozymes) treatment (at initial pH 4.0, 50 °C) showed Pectinase ME to release maximum amount galacturonic acid (GalU) along high arabinose (Ara). On other hand, subjecting hydrolysis using 0.64 M sulphuric at 80 °C was relatively selective solubilising mainly Ara (71.3% content), subsequent solubilised 68.5% GalU content. Treatment residual solid fraction cellulases released 81.9% original glucose Size-exclusion chromatography revealed presence oligomers ranging from dimers pentamers hydrolysates. Mass-balance based analysis 1000 kg /h biorefinery three-stage further valorization arabitol, mucic levulinic acid, respectively, indicated economic feasibility value addition SBP, which sold 200 US$/t animal feed. Recycling water catalysts would be important reducing waste generation improving environmental performance.

Selective fractionation of Sugar Beet Pulp for release of fermentation and chemical feedstocks; optimisation of thermo-chemical pre-treatment.

The effect of time and pressure on the selective extraction of sugar beet pectin using steam pre-treatment on unprocessed Sugar Beet Pulp was evaluated using a design of experiments approach. This process gave the highest solubilisation of pectin oligomers at a relatively low pressure and longer time (5Bar, 24min), whilst leaving the majority of the cellulose fraction intact. This method of ste...

Physico-chemical characterization of alkaline soluble polysaccharides from sugar beet pulp

We studied the global (i.e. overall) structure of microwave-assisted alkaline soluble polysaccharides (ASP) isolated from fresh sugar beet pulp. The objective was to minimize the disassembly and possibly the degradation of these polysaccharides during extraction. Prior to ASP microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), pectin was removed and isolated by MAE. Two sub fractions, ASP I and ASP II were is...

Fungal secretomes enhance sugar beet pulp hydrolysis

The recalcitrance of lignocellulose makes enzymatic hydrolysis of plant biomass for the production of second generation biofuels a major challenge. This work investigates an efficient and economic approach for the enzymatic hydrolysis of sugar beet pulp (SBP), which is a difficult to degrade, hemicellulose-rich by-product of the table sugar industry. Three fungal strains were grown on different...

Integrated hydrolyzation and fermentation of sugar beet pulp to bioethanol.

Sugar beet pulp is an abundant industrial waste material that holds a great potential for bioethanol production owing to its high content of cellulose, hemicelluloses, and pectin. Its structural and chemical robustness limits the yield of fermentable sugars obtained by hydrolyzation and represents the main bottleneck for bioethanol production. Physical (ultrasound and thermal) pretreatment meth...
